The results of the speed check a few weeks ago indicated an average speed of 45 mph for the group of road users that the Roads Department use to decide a suitable speed limit. This excess speed is regarded as marginal, so Highland Council is unlikely to fund speed indicators as ECC requested. However improvements could be sought under the Safer Routes to School scheme which Cllr Jim McGillivray is pursuing.
Driving on the new unmarked surface of the A836 at night is tricky especially if it is raining. Unfortunately ECC's request for markings has been turned down since Highland Council does not possess the equipment to do the work! The work is contracted out to a firm in the Central Belt who are only prepared to do batch jobs during the summer season.
