The Edderton Old Church Preservation Trust was registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1995. The purpose of the Trust is to care for the former parish church, to raise the money necessary for repairing it and to get this work done. Prior to local government re-organisation the Church and graveyard were the responsibility of Ross & Cromarty District Council. It was transferred to the Highland Council in 1996 andEdderton Graveyard and Church are currently shown as being on the Protective Services Property Account now part of Transport, Environmental and Community Services. In 1996 Highland Council leased the building to the Edderton Old Church Preservation Trust. It is one of the three most important buildings of its kind in the north of Scotland and in a recentre-appraisal of its listed status Historic Scotland have revised its designation from Category `B' to Grade `A' status. From 1997 through to 2001 a detailed internal and external survey of the church was conductedand a specification for repairs and renovation was completed. Total cost for these works isestimated to be slightly over £338,000 though with provision for fees, contingencies etc the overall project cost will be in excess of £500,000. Applications have been submitted to Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund for grant assistance for the repairs/refurbishment. These have been favourably received and the Trust has been advised that they will receive formal offers of grant during June 2002.1. Subject to funding confirmation the Trust intend to go through the Tender procedure and hope to appoint a contractor by November of this year with works commencing on-site in January 2003 and continuing until December 2004. They have produced a work programme together with acashflow statement for the project.1.7 It is necessary for the Trust to apply to the Architectural Heritage Fund for help in the form ofshort-term loans to meet the shortfalls between paying contractors' invoices and receiving grantreimbursement from the funding bodies to meet these disbursements. The purpose of theArchitectural Heritage Fund Loan is to avoid the need for the Trust to borrow from a commercial bank.
