Beinn Tharsuinn Wind Farm - A Year On
Twelve months have now past since the opening of ScottishPower Renewables’ Beinn Tharsuinn wind farm. Producing 29.75 megawatts from the 17 Vestas V66 1.75 MW turbines, Beinn Tharsuinn generates clean green electricity equivalent to the needs of over of 16,000 households.   The site is supported by a team of locally based technicians, engineers and contractors who carry out the day-to-day operational and maintenance requirements and is operationally managed from ScottishPower Renewables’ Central Windfarm Control Point at Blacklaw Windfarm.

Highland Welcomes Tougher Laws on Tobacco Sales
Legislation introduced today (Monday) which prevents retailers from selling cigarettes to anyone under 18 years of age is being strongly supported in the Highlands, with The Highland Council promising to “police” the new legislation and institute prosecution where appropriate and NHS Highland reinforcing the benefits a healthy lifestyle free of cigarettes.

Small Claims Limit Set to Rise
Scottish Small Claims Court limit is set rise to £3000 as from January 2008.     Currently consumers in Scotland have only been able to take small claims actions up to the limit of £750. At a meeting of the Justice Committee to be held in October 2007 the proposed changes to the Summary Cause procedure (which includes Small Claims actions) are to be discussed in an official report.   These changes have been welcomed by consumer groups in Scotland.

UPDATE ON WASTE-WATER PLANT
/A decision was taken by the Council in September to oppose the application by Scottish Water Solutions (SWS) to site the new  waste-water plant next to the Distillery. There were many other objectors. As a consequence SWS has discussed the problem with representatives of the Council at several levels.
